Capacitive sensors see through vinyl and detect moisture and dry-rot.
Testing a vinyl clad window for this condition requires a sensors that can:
- See through vinyl
- Detect moisture
- Detect lower densities of the wooden substructure (dry-rot)
Capacitive sensors do all of these things. A capacitive sensor placed directly against the vinyl can sense the condition of the wood beneath. The sensor can be adjusted for a mid-range reading at a “good” portion of the window. Any portion of the window with moisture will produce a more positive reading. The reduced wood density of dry rot will produce a more negative reading.
